Wednesday, September 11, 1991 - North Shore News - 44 Creative sewing festival expands to western Canada. FROM HAUTE couture to home decor, Canadians are eager to do it themselves, says Rita Krim, president of International Showcase Associates Inc. She should know, having just taken her popular Creative Sewing and Needlework Festival on the road for its first regional show in Halifax. The Festival, which has delighted over 85,000 home sewers, needleworkers and crafters in Toronto in the past three years is now coming to the West Coast. If che enthusiasm of attendees in Halifax is any indication, the Festival will be well received from coast to coast. “The response was phenomenal,” says Krim, “from exhibitors, both retailers and suppliers, and visitors. They told us a show like this was long overdue and they hoped it would continue as an annual event.” Krim'’s company, International Showcase Associates, which produces the festival, is a business success story about a company that’s expanding during shaky Janet | Pectelitpe's economic times. Krim credits much of her success to the current trend to “cocooning”, spending more leisure time at home. “People want the way they dress and their home environment to reflect their personal raste. And they enjoy it themselves, using methods, products, and skills that get the job done quickly, simply and economically,” says Krim. The Creative Sewing and Needlework Festival (whose policy it is to promote Canadian businesses only) gives people the opportunity to discover, learn and buy che latest supplies, services, trends and techniques for sewing, knitting, quilting, spinning, weaving, embroidery, needlepoint, petit point, cross stitch, crocheting, smocking, folk art, stencilling and more. In addition to both retail and manufacturers’ exhibits, the festival offers over one hundred free how- to demenstrations in everything from sweater finishing techniques to computerized serging and how to NORTH SHORE SEW AND KNIT CENTRE 987-4933 116 E. 3RD ST., N.
