Valu cashier, Alev Day, has started
producing in North Van. The am-
bitious and environmentally-think-
ing young woman has set up a new
cottage industry to make 100%
cotton canvas bags in six totally
different colors using natural dyes,
called Safe Sacks. Alev tells me

that they’re selling like the
proverbial hot cakes!...

Good news! Something else not
to miss on the North Shore is one
of the town’s veteran musicians,
Cuddles (Stan) Johnson in per-
formance with his top-rated
quartet, including the incredibly
talented saxman, Roy Reynolds.
They just opened last weekend at
the Woodbine Inn in Capilano and
they'll be playing Fridays and
Saturdays for the next few weeks...

kids decided to stay here, rather
than go trekking across the coun-
try with him.

After all, it was only going to be

Due to political and other
reasons, it has been almost three
years now! So not only has

Marilyn had to try to run the fami-
ly home and maintain control in
the day-to-day chaos of family life,
deal with her day-to-day job, carry
through on her many volunteer
chores, while quietly dealing with
her own loneliness.

Despite this, she's always smil-
ing and supportive. Kristi said that
she wrote this tribute to her mom,
because she'd like her mother to
experience receiving, rather than
always giving, that she’d like to
have a few beautiful outfits, in-
stead of always heading to the sale
racks, and most of all, to let her

mom know why Marilyn won and
why she'll be so happy when her
husband finally comes home!..

Owners Jamie Hooper and Dan
Hunter opened their latest restau-
rant last week, just across from the
Coliseum on Renfrew. It’s Uptown
Charlies’s with 250 seats situated
on two levels, serving lunches and
dinners. This is the 2nd Uptown
Charlie’s for these guys. The other
one is Iccated in Ladner. Spotted
several North Van CBC types at
the do including P.R.’s Leri Davies
and Joan Athey, and Joan's hus-
band, Damion Inwood, the Pro-
vince’s celebrity columnist...
Hollywood Picture’s people have
named their new leading lady for
the feature movie, ‘‘Run'’. She’s
Kelly Preston, who played Arnold
Schwartzenneger’s girlfriend in the
movie, ‘‘Twins’’. She arrived in
town last week and began filming
on Tuesday... Cheers!
