TEAMS ON THE OFFENCE THE SOUNDS of helmeted heads butting, padded bodies hitting the turf and fans cheering has come once again to North Shore fields with the return of high school football action. “If we keep on working hard and improving, I think it’s going to be a real dogfight,’’ Windsor Dukes coach Jay Prepchuk said of the season. ‘Hopefully we can squeak into the playoffs.”’ Without the luxury of exhibition games to tune the team, the Dukes plowed headlong into competition, most recently taking a 7-0 Joss to Handsworth last week. “We moved the ball consistent- ly, but just couldn't put the ball in the endzone,’ he said of the team, featuring among the top players QB Mare Hutchinson, Chris Har- tis, Warren Castley and Notan Sackney. “They just have to maintain their work ethic,"’ said Prepchuk, who is joined in coaching duties by Jim Best, Neil Rerup, Milan Bol- juncic and Roald Kovacik. ‘‘They have a lot of potential.” At Carson Graham, Eagles coach Larry Donohoe is this year fielding a squad of 25 newcomers and 20 veterans. “I’m looking forward to a good season,’’ Donohoe said of the Eagles’ performance to date. ‘We're going to hold our own.” Among the noteworthy players suiting up for the Eagles this season are tailback/defensive back David Hoskins, fullback/ linebacker Kwakwee Baker and linebacker/guard Chris Bichler.
