across N. Shore

THOSE SHINY new buses climbing the local hills are the
first installment of BC Transit’s 28 new $200,000 GM
Classic series diesel buses being added to the Lower

Mainland’s bus fleet.

Seven of the new buses are
slated for service on the -North
Shore, with five already rolling on
local roads.

The vehicles feature wider
doorway access, 50 per cent more
window area and special Detroit
Diesel 6V92TA_ turbo-charged
engines allowing the buses improv-
ed hill climbing capacity.

The buses are part of a replace-
ment program phasing out a diesel
fleet which has seen approximately
20 years solid service.

“The buses are the backbone of
our transit system, and these new

buses ‘will ensure that we will be
able to maintain a high standard of
service to the riding public,’’ said
the Hon. Rita Johnston, Minister
responsible for BC Transit.

HOME-BASED businesses have a
new base on the North Shore in the
Home Based Business Group,
operated in affiliation with the
North Shore Enterprise Develop-
ment Centre (NSEDC).

The non-profit organization
wants to get small ” businesses
together and is holding its first
general meeting 7 p.m., June 25 at
the Lynn Valley United Church,
3201 Mountain Highway.

Expected topics at speaker
meetings include marketing, ac-
counting, finance, .income tax,
municipal licensing, selling and
advertising. A co-op is being
formed for buying publicity and
