Clark is returning to the board, having served this past year. Society President White also spoke to the audience on the changes that Lions Gate Hospital has seen over the year, including the introduc- tidn of an intern training pro- gram after a 10-year wait for funding. White noted that ‘‘the novelty of new minds (was) good for everyone,’’ and added that it was unusual for a community hospital to engage in training programs. He said that LGH has also worked with the Knowledge Network recently in produc- ing a course for graduate nurses, scheduled for telecast some tume this month or next. Commenting on the elec- trons, White said that LGH had maintained its in- dependence as far as choos- ing the members of its board whereas many hospitals have government appointees Chairman of the Finance Committee, Jim Warne said hospital spending has been ANA ‘*finances of the hospital are in good shape,’’ according to the fiscal year end report of March 31, 1984. He noted an increase in assets and operating expenses that was largely due to the 125-bed expansion of the ex- tended care unit, Evergreen House. Warne added that there was still a fund surplus for 1984 of over $1 million partly due to an accrual of funds as a lower wage settlement was achieved with employees than had been anticipated when money was set aside in 1982. A decision to spend the operating surplus was made ’ wheo the hospital received its budget allocation’ which would not have allowed it to maintain the same service as the previous year. Warne allowed that some limitations in spending were suull necessary but said health care was not jeopardized White agreed with a member of the audience who was concerned that the amount of money donated to the hospital had dwindled Whaite said that this type of Lg BROW ees Core THE ANNUAL meeting for the society that runs Lions Gate Hospital produced the annual battle between the pro and anti abortionists for seats on the board of directors.
