be constructed at North
Vancouver's Lonsdale Quay
has received an award for
architectural excellence in
institutional design.

The Pacific Marine
Training Institute building
designed by Waisman Dewar
Grout Architects of Van-
couver and opened last
Friday by Mrs. Henry Beil-
Irving, wife of the
Lieutenant-Governor — was
singled out for honor from
23° nominations in its
category for the first annual
Architectural Institute of

B.C. awards’ presented
recently.

The training institute,
which prepares for federal
Department of Transport
certificate examinations, is
an integral part of the
redevelopment of Lonsdale
Quay from vacant land to a
multi-use area surrounding
the North Vancouver Seabus
Terminal.

Other components of the
project include the new
headquarters for the In-
surance Corporation of B.C.
and B.C. Rail as well as a six-
acre waterfront park,
townhouses and apartments,
and new office and retail
areas

Lonsdale Quay 1s a project
managed by the Lonsdale
Development Company
Limited, a subsidiary of the
British Columbia
Development Corporation.
