B2 - Wednesday, February 3, 1982 - North Shore News EE sport ON THE NORTH SHORE THE OPTIMIST Club of the North Shore still wants a major stadium in the area, even though North Vancouver City council scuttled the idea last November. The club has sent letters to all three North Shore councils asking them to find out whether there's any community interest in building a stadium = and whether a stadium would be feasible. West Vancouver council briefly discussed the letter and then decided not to act on it because the issue was dead after City council's November vote against a study into the feasibility of a junior sports stadium. YMCA is once again offering a gymnastics camp for boys and girls aged 8 to 14 at Camp Elphinstone, Gibsons. The camp, from February 26 to 28, mixes the exciting sport of gymnastics with a small, group living ex- penmence in an outdoor setting. Durning their stay boys and giris will receive instruction in «tumbling, vaulting, uneven bars, balance beam City council itself voted to write a letter in return to Optimist President Bob Robinson, explaining they'll take up the matter at a special meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee. But Alderman Stella Jo Dean was not very en- couraging. “This is no time to be discussing a junior stadium,” she said. And Alderman Gary Payne said there isn't any grassroots interest for a stadium. YMCA offers agym camp and floor work, com- plemented by sessions in dance and trampoline. The camp is for both beginners and intermediate gymnasts.
