Al0-Sunday News, September 28, 1980 . inquiring reporter Ellsworth Dickson Lately I have been hearing reports that jogging can be harmnful for some people. Today's question is: “"Is jogging good for you?”’ Chris Miller Vancouver I have jogged on occasion and I have found I've had pains in my legs. In high school I was a good runner, but it was on a track, not the pavement. I have stopped jogging because of the pains and now I do push ups and callisthenics. P. Alex Fraser was touring the province with Premier Bennett and other cabinet ministers last week, but commented on the discussion through Angus Ree, the MLA for North Vancouver-Capilano. And his view of the discussion differs drastically from that of Humphreys’. “Mayor Derrick Hum- phreys was told that there was a proposal to add another truck ferry on the Tsawwassen route.” Ree said. “This would alleviate truck traffic on the Upper Levels.” But Ree said Humphreys was never informed that all truck traffic would be banned from Horseshoe Bay. He said truck traffic on the Langdale and Powell River ferries would still have to go through Horseshoe Bay, as would any com- mercial traffic to the nor- thern portion of Vancouver Island. Any decline in the amount of truck traffic on the Horseshoe Bay ferries, would cap off a drive by West Vancouver council to . control heavy traffic in the area. Last month, council passed a motion urging the provincial government to improve heavy vehicle in- spection services, in response to complaints from Horseshoe Bay _ residents about mechanically unfit trucks on residential roads. “Horseshoe Bay is getting stomped to death by in- dustrial traffic,” Humphreys said. He said that residents are being plagued by the noise of big trucks “even in the late night hours.” “Protect Horseshoe Bay is the philosophy of this (West Vancouver) council.” He described any _re- routing of truck traffic as “an important thing.” In his discussion with Fraser, Humphreys said he also discussed “the matter of the design, planning and study of a Lions Gate link (with the Upper Levels highway). “He again assurred me that he would put his staff to work to get some realistic Statistics and study as to the variable alternatives from the provincial government point of view.” Humphreys said he told Fraser that it was essential to have a link between the bridge and the highway in the foreseeable future. He said the problem “is how this vast traffic that is being generated ... to.a large _ , Portion of the province can be given speeding movement from the Lions Gate bridge to the Upper Levels highway without impeding on the residential areas of the North Shore municipalities.” wn 2164 W. 41 St. 1604 Lonsdale 701 W.
