(Ian Smith photo) The West Vancouver first division cricket team got off to a good start in the new season last weekend with an easy victory over the Vancouver Rowing Club (VRC). Batting first, the VRC had trouble with the West West Vancouver's junior grass hockey teams had mized luck last Saturday with some teams sconng victones and others going down to defeat. West Van Orchas defeated the White Hawks by a score of 2-1, with goals by Ansan and Nicholas Bodie. The West Van Ravens also won by a 2-1 score, over the Green Hawks. Both goals were scored by Chnis Loewen, with Ilan Bird dominating the play for the Ravens as centre half. Both West Van under 13 years teams had a loss. Vancouver bowlers, Miller and Dutch newcomer Frank Vermeulen. At the end of the innings the VRC were all out for 74. Vermeulen was the outstanding bowler, with his left arm swing bowling Mixed results for field The West Van Ravin were shutout by the Blue Falcon 40 and although the Ravin played well in the first half they were dominated by the Falcon defence. The West Ochas were also shutout by a similar score in their game against Rich- mond. The West Van 17 and under team won two games during the week. Dave Snowden = scored both goals as the team beat Richmond 2-! on Wed- nesday and on Saturday Rany Reusch scored the only goals as the team was vic tonous over the Hawks. West Van take cricket opener taking four wickets for 28 ~ West Vancouver had little trouble in scoring runs in the face of weak VRC bowling. Slade in particular played a fluent innings of 42 not out and he was joined in a sparkhng unbroken stand of The West Van under 21 played against the Falcons and lost 2-1. The West Van goal was scored by Don Snowden on a beautiful pass from Mark Lecker. The senior West Van- couver hockey club finished their season with victories. West Vancouver III beat Occasional by a score of 2-1 and West Vancouver II tied with Grasshoppers 2-2. 41 runs, by Moore, who was 21 not out at the end of the innings. West Vancouver ended the innings with a decisive 78 for 2 victory. The gang of 12 year olds also saw one of their teammates, Scott Bennett, named as an all-star alter- nate. Bennett scored the only Lyon Valley goal on Saturday when the Falcons were upset by Cliff Avenue United 5-1. Cliff Avenue, behind Bob McCusker, the runner-up to the Sun Soccer Boy, demonstrated totai control in their big win over the Falcons. Lynn Valley were making their second appearance in two years.
