Born in Eatonia, Saskatchewan on February 26, 1935 and grew up in the Brooks area of Alberta. He worked as an electrician and a heavy duty mechanic. He enjoyed sports, coached hockey and played golf, Mr. Bender was a policeman in New Westminster for a few years.
