Lighting was installed making the area safe for evening strolls, and the children’s playground was renewed. The old washroom was removed and a new one installed elsewhere so that the view is no longer blocked. Dirk Oostindie, of the District of North Vancouver's Parks Department, said the area definite- ly needed improvement. ‘People are surprised when they see the changes and everybody is very pos- itive,’ he said. Phase one cost $600,000 and phase two, if approved, will cost at least another $300,000, Oostindie said.
