New trash limit unfair Dear Editor: An open letter to the Greater Vancouver Regional District: «Changing the green yard waste limit at the North Shore Transfer Station to one trip per day, instead of 200 kg per load at ‘no charge makes no sense. “” Maybe a more creative solu- tion could be implemented. Making someone wait a day to re-use a service they're already paying taxes vowards scems thoughtless. How about 500 kg a week, or even~a_ yearly allowance with no daily limit? Think of the people who rent a, truck for a day to recycle their : yard waste, and let them drop their 200 kg loads for no charge and do it in a single day instead of two. Why make a Saturday job into a weekend job? The ‘result is the same, but just 1 requires:a little more’ flexibility ‘on your behalf. Why should - commercial “users living in North Vancouver get their first 200 kg free? Charge them ali the time. User pay makes sense, but I already ‘pay through my taxes. Why should I pay again? plementing © these “new Tes tions will only encourage ‘Open’ ‘your eyes; and’ possibly our noses to. the heed for better Dear Editor: Re: Jan. 21 headline “Doctors question health boss choice." It is a great pity that Dr. Alison Clark, as president of our hospital's medical staff, could not find a more polite response to your reporter con- cerning her newly and duly appoint- ed “boss” than “We will try and work with what we've got” ...or were you misquoted madam? We know many doctors pine for a return to the days of private patients and being accountable only to their peers, but they are now pro- fessionals working within a regulat- ed and publicly funded industry. Few of us in other industries have or expect to have a vote on who is to be our CEO and the.cho- ‘ sen candidate seems eminently quelified. I can understand Dr. Clark’s unease, but not her feigned surprise. As an analogy, shareholders seeking a dramatic change in corpo- rate direction are unlikely to reap- point an existing board of directors or its CEO.
