Some quilt-inakers make “art
quilts, which are meant ta hang
on the wall rather than cover a
bed.

The sewing methods employed
by these guiltmakers are usually
traditional. but the designs chosen
may be entirely original or a per-
sonal interpretation of a tradition-
al design.

A contemporary design trend
is lo interpret design elements
from other, (ruditionaliy nan-
quilting cultures.

In Canada, quilimakers partic-
ularly appreciate First Nations”
influences.

Whatever the influence. what
ever the colors, the patterns, or
the type of quilt made, quilts have
a compelling draw.

Here on the North Shore,
members of the Lions Gate
Ouilters’ Guild understand that
draw well. Their lave of quilting
is su stroug that every other year
they work to puton a display of
their quilts for the public tu see
and enjoy.

Their first show. in 1992. was
a great success and they look for-

ward to hosting another enjovable
“Album of Quilts” show this
year.

The show includes: a main
quilt display area: an education
area where people can learn about
the construction of a quilt from
beginning to end and can practise
quilting on a quilt: a beautifully
hand-quilted raffle quill with
