The last day for submissions to the Elementary Schools Art Contest and the Secondary Schools Essay Contes: is Friday, April 29. For the Elementary Art Contest, five top prizes cf $200 each will be awarded to the schools of the win- ning entries. : Other groups of elementary-age children (Brownies and Cubs) are also invited to participate. The topics for this year’s com- petition are Air Quality and Transportation, Solid Waste and Recycling, and Drinking Water and Wastewater. _. Each art submission is to be made of reused or recycled materi- “als, and are to be a group effort and ‘clearly labeled with the school name, address, telephone number, names of sponsoring teachers, and to mail your income tax return. There are also 10 Merit Awards of $150 cach: five for essays from Grades eight to 10 and five for Grades 1} and 12. The three topics for the essay contest are Commuting, related to air quality and transportation choic- es; Composting as a means of solid waste reduction; and Conserving which focuses on water conserva- tion in the GVRD.
