ADMITTING IT was wrong not to provide provi- sions for a theatre in its long-term plan, the board of Presentation House Cul- tural Society will meet with representatives of local theatre tonight to map out a new strategic plan for Pres- entation House Theatre. By Evelyn Jacob News Reporter Oe Board chairman Gordon Harris said the board sees theatre as essential to the North Shore and is committed, to helping Presentation House Theatre become ‘‘self-suf- ficient." The board has been severely criticized for ignoring the theatre _and for what some saw as pur- posely letting the facility run down, but Harris said those critics should put away their fears. Asked if he had some idea of what kind of theatre the board would ‘like to see, Harris said: ““We don’t have a specific vision _for the theatre. We want the users and the people who have expertise in theatre to help us shape that strategy.”’ As well, he had little idea of just how the theatre would attain “‘self-sufficient’’ status, saying he wants to leave that up to those who have more experience in run- ning theatre. Dorothy Jenkins, past president of Theatre. West Van, welcomed any move towards a long-term plan for the theatre. But she re- mained skeptical of the board’s _, initiative, saying she feels strongly . that the facility should be run by its users... : “Is this a genuine move to put Presentation House Theatre back as a community theatre, or does the board just want to keep it for themselves?”’ . ‘BIOMEDICAL WASTE HEARING June 24, 1993 DISCOVERY ‘THEATER, PLAZA OF NATIONS 760 Paciric Bivp. Board member Laurel Parsons, who represents the North Yan- couver Community Arts Council, said that, while some arts groups have questioned the board’s sin- cerity towards securing a future for the theatre, she believes it is making a genuine atternpt to resolve the situation, Maggie Mason, the Jone theatre representative on the board, would not comment on the board's initiative.
