In the past the hotel cooling plant has operated for up to 10 months a year to provide ais con- ditioning to the guest rooms. The new Power Smart system uses a phate frame heat exchanger that vets cnough ‘free cooling’? from the hotel's cooling tower to keep the guest rooms comfortable without operating the large com- pressor, Bill Wells, the hotel’s engineer, said these days the new system is carrying the buik of the cooling load for the 347-room hotel. ‘*It's running well,’’ he said. ‘‘We used to run the retukir cooling: system for ezht to 10 months a year. With che new system we're hoping thar will drop to five tos months a year.
