THE NORTH Shore YMCA is
re-introducing its Youth Basket-
ball Canada Program (YBC). This
league is geared towards develop-
-ing basic skills and techniques
with students in Grades 5-7 eligi-
ble for participation.

Here are some of the things
youngsters and their parents
should know:
© No try outs. Everyone plays in
YBC and youngsters will be plac-
ed in a team with their friends.

“Some friends will be known and,

some friends will be made!
® No bench-warmers. Everyone

will play at least half of every
game.

® Skills will improve. On a YMCA
basketball team, help wil! be pro-
vided to improve basketball skills
such as passing, dribbling,
shooting, offensive play and
defensive play.

The league opens Oct. 4 with all
games on Friday nights at the
West Vancouver YMCA.

Practice times will be available
in both North and West Van-
couver, depending on where
youngsters live.

League fees are $40 per player.

senior referee’s clinic for aspiring
soccer referees at the Sheraton
Via Hotel, 4331 Dominion St.,
Burnaby (Willingdon and Canada

Oct. 25 and includes day sessions
the following two days. Successful
completion qualifies participant as
a Class 3 soccer referee. Cost is
