A HOST of locai mechanics
— neighborhood profes-
sionals across the North
Shore — received some add-
ed training last week to help
them service the complicated
computerized engine con-
trols and fuel injector
systems in new cars.

“We are trying to have the
mechanics in the lo-al garages be
able to (properly) work on these
new cars,’’ said Rick Nex, sales
representative for workshop spon-
sor North Shore Parts. ‘*There’s
teally a lot to fearn.”*

Participants from as far away as
Squamish and Whistler learned
about tools, techniques and
diagnosis associated with fixing the
computerized cars.

With computers becoming
common equipment in the majori-
ty of new cars, local mechanics are
investing time and money in skills
upgrading, said Nex.

In the spring, North Shore Parts
wil! sponsor a similar workshop,
this time teaching more about on-
board computer systems and air
conditioning.

“In efforts to have skilled and
competent (mechanics) working on
these new cars...we are hosting
these workshops with garage
owners and technicians.""
