Artist Jim McKenzie, 33, has been commissioned to paint an outdoor mural by the restaurant owners. This is the first mural for MeKenzie, who studied art at UBC, and now lives on Mayne Island. He began painting the 20-by-30-foot mural two wecks ago, and estimates it will be completed in two weeks if good weather contnues, The image was fiist painted by McKenzie for Van- couver Magazine, which published it as a Vancouver Centennial commemorative last year. The original drawing was donated, by McKenzie, to the city of Vancouver, and hangs in Mayor Michael Harcourt’s office. The artist is using the air brush technique, using lacquer paints on the mural, VANCOUVER, as it was when Captain Vancouver greeted its shores in 1792, takes shape at the side of Caper’s Restaurant in West Vancouver.
