By KIM PEMBERTON News Reporter Recent calls involved a July 9 incident in which crew from the BCLS helped rescue a pleasure craft that went aground off Spanish Banks. Three days iater volunteers towed another pleasure craft that had broken down and was adrift close to shore at Dor- man Bay on Bowen Island. The [48th call involved a one- hour search by Jocal BCLS members Sunday. beginning at 5:20 p.m. The volunteer crew sear- ched around Sunset Marina and local coastline for an overdue 16- foot canoe. The search was called off after the canoeist was reported safe at home. On July 14, a 36-foot sailboat, disabled with motor problems and adrift, was towed by the BCLS to Fisherman's Cove. Later that day a 42-foot pleasure craft, 10-feet away from the racks, was towed to safety. And at 8:25 p.m. a 28-foot boat that was adrift was towed by the BCLS. On July 15, the BCLS responded toa call of an overturned sailboat with two teenagers in the water, vast of Passage Island. When the crew arrived, the youths, age 12 and 13, had righted the boat. As the BCLS was escorting them to the shore, another sailboat flipped over and the volunteers pulled a 18-year-old out of the water, Call number 158 involved an 18-foort boat rented from Granville Island that) had vone up on the rocks east of Passage Island. The lifeboat crew rescued the two ac- cupants, who were waist deep in water, trying to hold the boat off the rocks. The BCLS is an independent society that relies on public sup- port to operate.
