That’s why he’s one of my favorite people. He believes that if the ancient roles of men and women are reversed, and men take a subar- dinate role, our civilization will go to the dogs. Fleishman is a divorce lawyer who has long claimed to be oppos- ed to divorce, and some years ago he wrote a book on the conse- f quences of marriage break-ups called Counsel For The Darnned. I: is still selling. And now he’s given virth to another work, The ‘X’ Factor, that will have our more militant fems sweating with | rage. The book is subtitled An American Cultural Dilemma because it’s aimed at the Yankee market. But don't let that put you off. He's talking about us, too. The dilemma is the conflict bet- ween the power that has been given to the modern female mar- riage wrecker, and the age-old cultural tradition in which the male dominated. The wrecker, he says, is a female psychopath whose ambi- tion is to smash the marriage that she herself chose. Usually, her tarantula qualities stem from Daddy-hostility. Get hitched to one of those ladies, suggests Fleishman, and you stand no chance even if you're Robert Redford. Mumbo-junibo? Perhaps. But Fleishman has spent six years working on this, and his thesis is Shipbuilder optimistic From Page 2 government to do something for the nation’s shipbuilding industry was welcome. Of North Vancouver's three re- maining major shipyards, only Versatile, with its icebreaker hull scheduled for completion in mid- 1987, has shipbuilding work on its books beyond 1986. NO ORDERS Genstar Shipyards Ltd. currently has no new orders. Allied Ship- builders Ltd, is building one har- bor patrol vessel for the Vancouver Pert Corporation, which is sched- uled for completion at the end of February. But Genstar operations manager Tom Ward said Tuesday that not all is doom and gioom in the in- dustry. He said the current situation would sort the local industry out, and pointed to the possibility of the local Vancouver shipbuilding consortium, which includes three North Vancouver shipyards, lan- ding contracts from the Russians to build 10 icebreaking vessels. based on personal observation. Tens of thousands of divorce clients have passed through his hands, and his conclusion is that he has seen the future and it doesn’t work. Dr. Collins himself (than whom there is no greater authority) has written that one reason Canadian pansydom is on the increase is that men are secking refuge from lesbians and libber-terrorism. There could be a connection bet- ween that and the lawyer's belief that the female psychopath is run- ning wild. He isn’t saying that every divorced woman is an ‘X’ factor. But he holds that the crazies have been given massive, destructive scope. His greatest contempt is reserv- ed for the politicians who have made all this possible. They are, he told me, ‘‘an arrant group of whoremongers’’, most of whose personal lives are a shambles. And they have little or no understan- ding of what their legislative acts portend, Does the Status of Women want easier divorce? The politi- cians will deliver it. Does another bunch want ‘‘childien’s rights’’ that deprive parents of (heir rights? It gets them. For years now, there has been no penalty for either party in mar- riage for irresponsibility. Walk out for any reason or none and it makes no difference as far as the division of property is concerned. “The states, their children, women.” The system was tailor-made for the female psychopath and will be worse when ‘no-fault’? divorce arrives. Above all, beware of the woman who comes from a disrupted family in which the mother has told her dear daughter: “Don’t let your hus- band do to you what your father did to me."’ Ficishman has qualified sup- port from some eminent American shrinks. Dr. Richard Jenkins of the University of lowa read the book and wrote to him to say that the effect of psychopathic women on husbands and children can be catastrophic. Because of her mothering role, the psychopathic woman is more damaging to a family than the psychopathic man. In the foreword to the book, Dr. William Reid of Nebraska says that The ‘X’ Factor contains bain wheat and chaff. truly dispossessed," he “ase divorced men and not so much the While I was talking to Neil, | kept hearing this low cooing.
