The Centre, at 144 East 22nd Street, launched a cam. paign in late October asking North Shore residents to donate their original five tree BORIC shares to an endow- ment fund. The fund will generale operating capital for the Centre which was hard hit by provincial government restraint earher this year. The first stage of the fund raising campaign raised just over $30,000 in BCRIC shares and cash donated at shopping centres and North Shore financial institutions during Silver Harbour Week in late October and donations are continuing to be received at the Centre - in person and by maul. “We know thal many peo- ple can't tind or have com- mitted their BORIC shares to other purposes,” said fund raising Chairman Scott Mears, “‘but we are very pleased to take cash.”’ The Commemorative BCRIC Wall of Honour at the Centre contains a “brick’’ for each donor ot $18 or more, and more than 2 000 bricks are now on the wall. Mears said the fund drive will continue into the new vear and will attempt to give each household in North Vancouver a chance to contribute. “This om an extremely valuable facilts and program for our seniors, and consider- ing that each of us is petting older, 1’°S a service we will all share,’’ he said.
