ince 1931, the West Vancouver Youth Band has been part of the community of West Vancouver. Thousands of families have participated in our bands and enjoyed our concerts. The Band is a a family-driven f. organization. The Board of Directors is comprised of parents of band members and band alumni. Lasting friendships, an appreciation of music and happy memories are part of belonging to: this unique rganization. Happily. we'-are still creating those .experiences for the youth of West Vancouver as our band grows stronger than ever. ince the Fall of 1993, the Band has been under the leadership of Deuglas Macaulay, award winning composer and arranger. Interest in the Band within the community is growing for the first time in many years. The Band received a silver medal award at MusicFest Canada in 1995 where, out of the great many school bands participating from across Canada, _ the West Vancouver Youth Band was the only community band. n this, our 65th year, the Band's goal has been to strengthen its ties with the. community by playing a greater number of community service concerts than “ever before. 4 “? Saturday, June Ist (West Vancouver Community Day) the Band will be parading for the first time in its new uniforms. The youth band season closes for this year on Wednesday, June 19th with our Concert by the Sea, featuring all three band levels performing at John Lawson Park. The Band has taken Steps towards becoming self sufficient by hiring itself out to professional organizations, private functions, and conventions in order to generate income. he future is bright and exciting for the members of the West Vancouver Youth Band and the community which they serve. We close our 65th anniversary on Thursday,- November turing many exciting, new, unpublished wotks by Canadian composers, with guest soloists. in the spring of 1997 the Senior Youth Band will tour this extraordinary all- Canadian program down the west coast of the United States to the San Francisco International Music Festival, where they will represent our community and our country. Plans are in the works for a concert in the 1997/98 season entitled A Night at the Opera, featuring music from the great operas for the Band alone and guest . voice . soloists.
