Admission to the games is free and spectators are welcome. eee JAN. 31-FEB. 2: Vancouver is hosting Sweden for Davis Cup Flicka gymnast finishes fourth in Montreal TWO B.C. gymnasts were the on- ly girls from the west to penetrate the top 10 in the junior high per- formance category at Elite Canada in Montreal last weekend. This was the first national selec- tion competition of the 1991-92 season with top junior and senior gymnasts competing from across the country. Only the top 16 juniors and top 24 seniors qualify. Angela Orange, 13, of Rich- mond, who trains with the Flicka Gym Club in North Vancouver, finished fourth all-round with a total of 73.25. . Tammy Stauffer, 12, of New who trains with Gemstars Gym Club in Surrey, was a close fifth with 73.00. Orange's Montreal performance could earn her some national team competition. She has steadily climbed the junior ranks, moving from ninth at Elite Canada ‘90 to seventh at the Canadian champi- onships in May. At Elite Canada '91 she finished second in two of the four individ- ual events — vault and floor exer- cise, each with a total of 18.75. She was 14th on bars with 18.10 and 19th on balance beam with 17.65, Wianer of the junior category was Marilou Cousineau of Gym- nix Club in Montreal with an ail- round total! of 75.35. Two other Flicka gymnasts at- tended the competition. Marlies Emst, 15, of West Vancouver, came 22nd all-round in the senior high performance competition with a total of 70.75. She is waiting to hear if she will qualify for the top 24 as there were three medical petitions from carded athletes which, if successful, would drop her to 25th.
