coordinator Dan Daszkowski.

“The weather wasn't cooperati-
ng, but the entries I saw were real-
ly spectacular,’’ he said. “I
couldn’t believe it."

Thirty-five summer category en-
tries have been received so far, but
organizers are expecting that
number to at Jeast meet last year’s
91 entries before the July 31
deadline.

Built-up or tar-and-gravel flat
roofing can also develop cracks,
blisters and bare patches — signals
that the roofing material is failing.
In this case, you should call a con-
tractor — the roof may not be safe
to walk on.

Standing water, calied ponding,
often leads to the early demise of
these types of roof. Caused by
poor design, clogged drain pipes or
sagging roof joists, this situation is
also best left to a contractor.

If your home has a metal roof,
watch for corrosion. Temporary
repairs can be made with foilback-
ed mastic adhesive, but anything
more permanent needs a roofer. —
