Man guilty of firearm offence CLEN ‘HARRY Diffner was handed a suspended sentence and placed on three years probation Wednesday in North Vancouver provincial court after pleading guilty to one count of pointing a firearm. The 46-year-old North Vancouver man pleaded guilty to the charge Sept. 2 and was appearing for a pre-sentence report Wed- nesday. Diffner was originally charged with four weapors-related counts in connection with a May 12 incident at a Lynn Valley residence. On that date, North Vancouver RCMP were called to a house on Hoskins Read, where a man was reported to be shooting a rifle. Diffner was later arrested. In addition to the charge of pointing a firearm, the North Van- couver man was charged with careless handling of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life. Following Diffner’s arrest, RCMP seized a cache of firearms, which included revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, rifles and shotguns. Diffner has been prohibited from possessing firearms for five years. LGH to get surgery facelift A WEST Vancouver company has been awarded the contract to build new surgery facilities at Lions Gate Hospital. Alexander Construction Ltd. will build two new procedure rooms and do other inferior renovations for the hospital's new en- doscopy and minor surgery facilities. The contract is worth $368,652. Alexander will have 75 days to complete the project. Cost of the entire project is estimated at $418,049 and will be shared 60-40 by the provincial government and the Greater Van- couver Regional Hospital District. Woman charged with forgery CHARGES OF forgery and theft have landed a 20-year-old North Vancouver woman in court. Camille Suzanne Currie was originally charged with one count of forgery in connection with an Apri} 22 incident in which she is alleged to have tried to cash an $80 cheque. An additional charge of theft was laid against Currie in connec- tion with a theft of cheques that allegedly occurred between April 13 and May 12. Appearing before North Vancouver provincial court Judge J.D. Layton, Currie was remanded to Nov. 12 to stand trial on the charges.
