Seniors cook up protest

Association were told at a
luncheon meeting Monday
by Grace Cramer, secretary
to the B.C. Seniors Associa-
tion.

Cramer, speaking to the
seniors about federal plans
to de-index old age pensions,
urged seniors to put pressure
on elected officials.

Cramer explained that
plans to de-index the basic
Old Age Security pension
could amount to a signifi-
cant loss to seniors in the
years to come. ‘‘It runs into
a great deal of money for
people who don’t have near-
ly enough,’’ Cramer said.

Cramer reported on a
meeting last week with Op-
position Leader John
Turner, saying he was
responsive to needs of
seniors. ‘‘He promised he
would continue to fight for

government to drop de-
indexation,’ Cramer told
about 25 people gathered for
the luncheon meeting.

“I think we're going to
have to keep up the pressure.
Don’t give up,’? Cramer
said. “You can just write a
few lines to your MP or Mr.
Mulroney. It won't cost you
anything and | urge you to
do that.”
