[t was at thar dance that Alexandrina met her future husband, Tachlan Buchanan. Life took on new meaning tor Alexandrina, and they were married in 1942. They settled on the North Shore and even- tually had one child, a son. The Buchanans purchased property with a cabin on a lake in the Cariboo, and for several , “years the- family enjoyed spending time ‘there, relaxing and swimming in that beauti- ful setting. In 1965, Alexandrina and Lachlan travelled to Scodand to visit with family members and jong-time friends. They met up with an elderly man who knew her parents and even remembered her name. He offered to take them out to the isle of Sanda. The weather was very cold so the man removed a big can- vas trons his own shoulders, and draped it around Alexandrina and Lachlan for warmth during the iough ride in the small open bout. “PI always remember thas kind rly man wearing thai thick, navy blue, turtleneck sweater and his favourite cap, steering that tiny boat,” she Laughs. “The setting was breathtak- beautiful. We were invit- ed inside the larger of the two houses fora beverage and a meal, 1 roamed trom room to room as memories of earlier years flooded my mind.” The advice Alexandrina herself once followed stil! applies to younger people today: “Follow your own ‘no’ instincts. Don’t let anyone talk you into anything when your inner voice tells vou ‘no.’ ” Nowadays, Alexandrina keeps busy with her vegetable and flower gardens, sewing, doing things for her wo grandchildren and keeping in idea to Vitxi touch with friends and family members. She is a member of St. Andrews Church and the United Church Women’s | Association. At this time of year she is busy with the asso- ciation’s upcoming, annual bazaar, Nov. 6 at the church, 10th and St. Georges in North Vancouver.
