Translink’s Strategic Transportation Plan Funding Options The Policy Committee of Council will be considering the issue of "TransLink’s Strategic Transportation Plan Fund- ing Options" outlined in the report of the Deputy "zy Engineer and the Director of Finance, at a. public meeting on Monday, October 16, 2000 at 7:06 p.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall, 147. West 14th Street, North Vancouver, B.C. TransLink, the regional transportation authority wishes to implement a Strategic Transportation Plan (STP dated Aprii 2000) with multiple goals including increasing transit use, slowing growth in congestion, supporting goods movement and providina a well-maintained major road network. According to TransLink, approximately $4 billion is required to implement the plan between the years 2000 and 2005. A funding shortfall exists of approxi- mately $450 million. TransLink has put forth several proposals to address the shortfall and is conducting community meetings throughout the region to gauge public sentiment on the issue, in advance of a November TransLink board meeting. City Council has directed that the funding issue be the subject of a Policy Committee meeting to determine their position in this matter. The Policy Committee of Council will receive representations with respect to the above topic.
