Council voted unanimous- Jy July 17 to adopt in pring ple the = Environment Protection Program, while a group of volunteers Hstened politely. The program is designed to help identity and designate sensitive areas; draft b based on enisting legislation to help protect soil, water, fisheries, wildlife and the environment as well as draft an environmental protection plan. It will seek to address con- cerns over increasing urban- ization, loss of habitat for fish and encouragement of public education and stewardship of the city’s environment. The action plan will be phased in over a period of five years aad is projected to be funded at $120,060, to be increased ta $180,000 by 2002.
