Park board OK’s toll body

VANCOUVER Park Board
Chairman Duncan Wilson is backing
the West Vancouver Chamber of
Commerce plan to set up a local
tolling authority for the Lions Gate
Bridge.
’. Wilson ‘said the park board endorses Io .al
contro] but believes that such an arrangement
must be examined with an eye to its potential
for future integration with 2 regional tolling
policy.

In a presentation made Tuesday for the

West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce,
Wilson reiterated the board’s support for a
tunnel beneath the Stanley Park portion of the
route. Wilson said that almost a third of the
park is being affected by noise from the cause-
way. A tunnel for the causeway would reduce
the noise.

Said Wilson in response to concerns about
tolling the crossing: “Let’s choose the right
infrastructure for the furure. Government poli-
cies on tolling and governments can change. If
we choose the wrong solution, generations to
come will be stuck with it.”
