The money will be given to the Kiwanis Society to pur- chase land on which to build a $25-million, 194-bed multi- level facility for seniors. The multi-level care centre will provide several levels of care in one location, allowing seniors to remain at the centre even though their needs may change over time. Plans include a 25-bed special care wing for residents with Alzheimer’s disease, a private garden with a circular walk- way and a seniors’ drop-in centre. Kiwanis’ current 16-storey home in Lynn Valley does not have many of the modern amenities now considered Standard in care homes. A new three-storey residential style brick and stucco build- ing. will replace this facility. “By working in partner- ship with the Kiwanis society, the B.C. government will pro- vide a quality facility in a convenient and attractive location for the people of this community.” said Schreck. The approximately 1.6 hectares of land is located ina natural setting off Mt. Seymour Parkway near Deep Cove. Construction of the care facility is expected to begin next October for com- pletion by May 1997.
