By Mare Rovner Contributing Writer If you answered yes to either of these, the Sports Car Club of B.C. (SCCBC) has an opportunity for you, On March 18, 19 and 20, the SCCBC will hold a driver training course at the recently completed Mission Motorsport Park, Originally designed as the first step towards becoming a race car driver, the two-and-a-half-day pro- gram is equally valuable for driving enthusiasts who simply want to become better drivers. In addition to improving your driving skills, participants will come away with a much better appreciation of the high-speed world of motorsports. The course begins on Friday evening (March 18) with a technical inspection of the cars. A classroom session on safety, flagging. driver preparation and performance dri- ving theory will also be part of the first night’s program. Saturday morning (March 19) starts bright and carly at 8:30 a.m. with a brief drivers’ meeting, where the course instructors are intro- duced and the three-day curriculum is reviewed. Then, it’s onto the track for the rest of the weekend. There is dual on-track instruc- tion, which means there is an instructor in the car with you at all times. The morning is spent driving at slow speed, focusing on theory and specific techniques such as heel and toe shifting.
