Murder hearing

A PRELIMINARY hearing began on Moniay, May 34,
in connection with the death of a Filipino sailor and the
robbery of his friend in North Vancouver on Qet. 24,
1991,

Ryan Allan Sncob, 25, und Geosge Stephen Jacobs,
25, both of North Vancouver, are charged with the
second-degree murder of Jovito Valdueva Beguna, 36.

In addition, Jacob, Jacobs and a third man, Todd
Christopher Moody, 22, also of North Vancouver, are
charged with the robbery of Danilo Crisastomo, 35,

Jacob, Jacobs, and Moody sat with five family
members during the first day of five scheduted days
slated for the preliminary hearing.

All three men were not in custody when they appeared
in North Vancouver provincial court,

The two Filipino sailors were on shore leave and hag
been drinking at the Coach House Inn.

Beguna's bedy was later found in the 11G0-biock of
West 26th Street.

Charges were laid one year after the alleged murder
and robhery took place.

THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP are investigating a
suspicious fire (hat damayed a hockey stand seating arca
near playing fields at Premier Street.

A police spokesman said a constable on routine patro!
noticed the structure was burning at about I a.m. on
Monday, May 31. :

The North Vancouver District Fire Department was
called to extinguish the blaze. The fire caused several
hundred dollars’ worth of damage to the hockey stand.

The potice are continuing their investigation.

TWO NORTH Vancouver men appeared in North Van-
couver provincial couri on Thursday, May 20, after both
men were charged with cocaine and marijuana posses-
sion.

Nicholas Peter Logan, 32, and Theodore Robert
Walker, 23, were charged in connection with incidents
which occurred on Oct. 16, 1992 in North Vancouver
District. /

Logan pleaded guilty to marijuana possession. His co-
caine charge was stayed.

Walker pleaded guilty to cocaine possession. His mari-
juana charge was stayed.

Judge Reginald Grandison fined Logan $100 and
Walker $200 in connection with the offences.
