Senior Boys’ and Girls’ Badminton: Wednesday, Oct. 2
at 3:45 p.m.: Handsworth af Argyle.

Handsworth is back ia the league after a one-year
absence. Argyle was in the B.C. championships last
season for the first time, so this match should indicate
how competitive the league is going to be this season.
Senior Girts’ Volleyball: Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.:
Hlandsworth at West Vancouver; and St. Thomas
Aquinas at Sentinel.

The four North Shore provincially-ranked teams g0 up
against each other iu this second week of icague play;
then Handsworth hosts St. Thomas Aquinas, West Van-
couver and nine other highly-rated schools in their an-
nual invitatiozal tourney Friday, Oct. 4 (3:45-10 p.m.)

Seldom does a school field two teams in the senior
division of any sport, but Argyle is doing it this season
in soccer. Tae Green team has been set up to. be the
‘stronger squad, but this is the one day they have to

prove it on the field.

In sudden death elimination,
Queen's Cross edged Jack Lons-
dale’s 3-2 while Yorkton blanked
Cheers 7-0.

In double knock-out action, the
Pirates shut out Queen’s 3-0 as
Yorkton got by Black Sox 5-3.

The semi-final winners bracket
saw the Pirates rally from a 5-2
deficit to defeat Yorkton 6-5,
Pirates catcher Doug Blanchard
sealed the win after leading off
the bottorn of the 7th with a dou-
ble and scoring on a pass ball.

In the losers bracket, Mike
Scallion pitched two consecutive
shut-out victories for the Cross
over Black Sox and Yorkton
respectively by identical scores of
2-0 enroute to the final.

Queen’s Cross forced a final
play-off game by taking the
opener 4-2,

The Pirates who have not lost
two consecutive games this season
clinched the final 4-0 with timely
hitting plus stellar pitching from
Atushi Fujita.

Fujita was also named tourna-
ment MVP and best pitcher coi-
lecting three wins and allowing
just four hits over 16 scoreless in-
nings.

This year’s best batter in play-
offs was Shawn McPherson who
was five for six with two homers.
