Menus at the Woodbine are in
desperate need of an overhaul.

The ones we received looked as
though they had been left out in a
violent hail storm and verged on il-
legibility.

Selection is a standard cross-
section of North American Can-
tonese Chinese food.

We tried orders of Woodbine
Special Chow Mein ($5.25),
Lemon Chicken ($8.25) and
Honey, Garlic Spareribs ($6.25).

The chow mein was good,
featuring a generous blend of
prawns, chicken, pork and low
mein noodles.

The spareribs were treated with
a nicely balanced blend of garlic
and honey that left neither over-
whelming the tastebuds.

Across the table the wee man
was enjoying the mind-altering ef-
fects of his sugar-rich cocktail
while guzzling a bowl of Won Ton
($3.75 for two).

The Lemon Chicken was a
pleasant, if somewhat sweet, ren-
dition of the traditional North
American Chinese dish. ;

All orders, came in full-figure,
family-size portions.

Harold dropped by to wish us all
-he best for 1987 and to grill the
wee man on his assessment of the
meal.

He left puzzling over a verbal
blur of bizarre toddlerisms.

The Woodbine Inn is a friendly
place to roll into after a Saturday
afternoon of hand-to-hand combat

conds,. though Duncan Fraser
came close to Scotch gourmand
heaven. with consumption of 22
ounces in the allotted 49 seconds,
and won a $250 shopping spree
donated by the Park Royal Super
Valu for his showing.

A grand prize round-trip ticket ::

to Prestwick, Scotland had been
offered by Skybridge Tours to
anyone who could break the world
record time.

An excellent spectator sport, the
contest underlined the good
Roman sense behind construction
of Hadrian’s Wall, but was not for
the skittish of stomach.
