The B.C. Ferry Corporation serves many
of the smaller Gulf Islands up and down
Georgia Strait as well as Vancouver Island.
As of Friday morning, the ferries are shut
down, stranding people all over the coast.

Today’s question is:

“Should the ferries be -—-
considered an essential service?’

FINANCIAL PROBLEMS?
Hyndman’s kit
full of advice

B.C.’s Consumer and
Corporate Affairs minister

has issued a new “self-help”
kit designed to assist British
Columbians in managing
their personal finances
during a time of financial
stress.

Consumer Affairs minister
Peter Hyndman, in an-
nouncing this new consumer
assistance kit, said, “For
some months, our ministry
has been very sensitive to the
growing number of our
cituzens who are facing a
crisis situation in their
personal finances as the
economy gets tougher and
tougher.

“Apart from the economy,
other factors such as injury,
ilincss, or marital break-up

may lead to serious problems
with personal finances,” he
aded.

“Our new self-help kit,
called ‘Surviving a Personal
Financial Crisis’, contains
valuable advice and = in-
formation for the citizen
beset by financial problems.

“A simple three step self.
help program is outlined.
Valuable advice is offered
about foreclosures,
repossessions, debtors’
rights, foiling inflation, and
the expert services of our
ministry's debt counsclling
service.”

The new self-help kit may
be obtained from the
Ministry of Consumer and
Corporate Affairs or any of
its consumer outlets
