The City Council sometimes
has to help with sewer

irs, and that makes it a
“man's job” to at léast one of
the members of the all-male
body.

That attitude may land the
council a federal sex
discrimination lawsuit.

Last week, Mayor Scott
Corsair appointed Marcella
Brown to a vacancy on the
council, but he was rebuffed

because members said a
woman couldn't be counted
on to help repair the
community's sewer system, a
chore that occasionally falls
to the council.

So, Corsair called a-
special meeting earlier this
week to elicit public opinion
from the western Kansas

vote that killed Brown's
