(UPI) - Ford Motor Co. may
insist that any government.
ordered modifications of its
automatic transmissions be
required of other auto
makers as well.

Paced with a_ possible
recall of 16 million 1972-79
cars and trucks, a Ford
safety cxpert said Thursday
the company is willing to
coosider design
modifications that would
help ensure a driver latches
the gearshift lever fully into
the park position

But, if the government
insists the transmissions arc
defective and = requires
repairs, Ford auto safety
director Roger Maugh said
the company would ask that
the requircmcat be applicd
to the entre industry
