THE ACTORS’ Guild pro- duction of Christopher Fry’s A Sleep of Prisoners starts a Lower Mainland tour at West Vancouver United Church on Saturday, March 3, at 8:00 p.m. Three additional perfor- mances on Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 4 and 11 will also. be presented at the church located at 2062 Esquimalt. Successfully produced in London and New York and in churches and theatres throughout Great Britain and the United Sates, A Sleep of Prisoners examines the roots of emnity that destroy an in- dividual’s sense of worth and divide men and nations. It telis the story of four Allied prisoners of war lock- ed up in a church in occupied territory. The main action comes in a sequence of dreams in which each prisoner displays his own in- ner response to events and to others. With an interweaving of biblical espisode and Christian ritual with a modern atmosphere of empty churches, earthy soldiers and (2 jiniversal war, A Sleep of Prisoners makes for forceful, meaningful theatre. Author Fry wrote that one thought prompting the play’s writing was the likelihood of war. At its heart, he wrote, is the idea that ‘progress is the growth of vision: the increas- ed perception of what makes for life and what makes for death.’ A Sleep of Prisoners is the Actors’ Guild’s first produc- tion. A select group of direc- tors, actors and production personnel, most of whom have had professional train- ing and experience, the Ac- tors’ Guild is committed to present quality stage material and achieve professional per- formance and _ production values. A Sleep of Prisoners represents the expression of one of the Actors’ Guild mandates: to present smaller The North Shore Eaterie Specializing in Exquisite Indian Curries TANDOORI!
