16 -— Sunday, March 1, 1992 - North Shore News FASHION Sung taps the sun THOUGH HE may boast a truly Canadian style, Alfred Sung is all over the map this spring. Sung travels on safaris to the jungles of Mozambique. He takes a yachting excursion in the Carib- bean. He goes for a picnic along the French countryside. He strolls down Fifth Avenue in New York City. He tackles the waves in the Mediterranean. He takes a business trip to the Greek Islands. He excavates the ruins of Peru. He wanders the breezy beaches of Belize. And he treks across the arid plains and grasslands of Zimbabwe. Though Sung has gone global, he is still consistent. There is a common thread running through all of the fashion groups in his Spring 1992 collections: the sun. The temperate side of the worid has influenced his heatwave of feminine clothing. Sung has explored the new mood in fashion which blends sensuous, breezy fabrics, tropical patterns, and naturally feminine silhouettes. And these fashion details add up to inspiration that is more imported than domestic. Sung adds exotic flourishes to fashion classics in his true signature style. Though he offers - a variety of different groupings, they are linked together so that ail coordinates work together. He in- terplays many colors, patterns and textures for a modern look. . Sung also allows the wearer to mix both the Alfred Sung Collec- tion and the Alfred Sung Sport line for a more personalized look. Where else would you expect to find French Riviera awning stripes mixed perfectly with safari madras or a flourish of countryside florals buttoned over a shade of white hot Aegean stucco or primitive . geometric crepe casually collided with refined South Hampton houndstooth? Alfred Sung Sport allows freedom of movement for weekends spent outdoors. And youthful, clean-lined separates allow for quick coordinating at a moment’s notice. Time is of the essence during the warmer months and Sung takes this a step further. Not only can his clothing be worn all of the time, the pieces are designed to be timeless and worn forever. There are key pieces that tie the ‘Alfred Sung Sport collection together. A chambray shirt, a novelty cotton sweater, a logo T- shirt and a pair of five pocket jeans. In each group, the colors and prints may change, but the shapes remain the same. The Sport line includes five separate groupings. BROOKLYN BRIDGE features Wall Street inspired suit, boyfriend jackets, bomber jackets, chambray shirts and slim trousers ALFRED SUNG has explored a new mood in fashion with his latest line, blending sensuous, breezy: fabrics, tropical pat- Carol Crenna FASHION STATEMENTS which are contrasted with femi- nine flowing skirts, slim skirts, pleated flip skirts and pointelle sweaters. Sung relies on simplicity for his designs, with the only embellish- ment being a softly tied waist, a pattern edge or an embroidered - edge. The six collection groups have a slightly dressier undertone than the sport line. FIFTH AVENUE is a sophisticated group of classics that are reworked with bright yellow, . off-white and black in bold checks and a unique star-dot- stripe print. Wrap blouses, semi-fitted little jackets and a collarless jacket with a detachable scarf are sculpted out of washed silk, and cool wool in houndstooth and solids. COTE D’AZUR is a chic group of separates influenced by the Mediterranean’s crashing waves and clear sky. Natural hues of sky blue and pale green are combined in a houndstooth, wool ottoman and dotted silk. A sarong skirt, a wispy crepe blouse and an_ unconstructed jacket are basics to the group.
