Emergency services tested A NORTH and West Vancouver Emergency Social Services team recently tested emergency evacua- tion plans. Coordinated by the North and “West Vancouver Emergency Pro- gram, the job of Emergency Social Services (ESS) volunteers is to focus on the needs of people- affected by an emergency. Approximately 100 volunteers turned out for an ,exercise in November, The group established a reception centre in Hollyburn School and tested procedures to provide 300 evacuees with. food, dry clothing and accommodation. In a true emergency such a recep: tion centre would also provide first aid, counselling, radio com- munications and care for children separated from their parents. Hollyburn ‘School is one ‘of 28 designated North Shore reception centres planned by ESS. The group is organized by the three North Shore municipal social planning and planning . depart- ments. It receives assistance from a host of organizations, including the North and West Vancouver Emergency Program, recreation commissions, the health depart- ment, school districts and the Food and Service Resource Group. . An under-13 boys indoor soccer team, the Wildcats have won their division for the past three years. yo Indoor youth soccer tourney set for North Shore schools APPROXIMATELY 1,500 kids are starting off the New Year on a sporty note. They’re participating in the fifth annual North Shore Youth Indoor Soccer Tournament to be held Jan. 4-5 at five North Van- couver schools. The North Shore Indoor Soccer Tournament is the largest indoor soccer tournament in Canada, ac- cording to tournament organizers. All but four of the 106 teams are from North and West Van- couver, with the visiting teams coming from Burnaby and Port Coquitlam. The North Shore teams come from the Lions Gate Soccer Association, Lynn Valley Soccer Association, the Mount Seymour Soccer Association, North Shore Girls Soccer Club, and the West Vancouver Soccer Association.
