need not resign themselves to being
without a garden this summer.

A sunny balcony, some nice big
pots and a selection of bulbous
plants can offer. an cffective
substitute.

For instance, tuberous begonias,
large and small flowered varictics
as well as hanging. basket (or pen-
_dula)- varieties are perhaps the
most obvious choice. April is a

: good month for starting tubcrous |

begonias.

Place the tubers in pots filled
with ordinary potting soil and put
the plants in.a-light place at a
temperature of 15 to 20 degrees C.
In late May, when ieaves start: to
* appear, the begonias can be moved
on to the balcony or terrace.

For newcomers to the tuberous —

begonia scene, always plant the
rough;. concave side upwards and

the smooth, rounded side down. |

and require little attention.
