VITAMIN E can be an excellent skin repairer, especially for the pre- vention of scarring. According to Dr. Tahira Jiwani, a West Van naturo- pathic physician, vitamin E is most cffective in the preven- tion of scarring when applied after seabbing has occurred. Vitamin E is also combats wrinkles and moisturizes dry skin. Vitamin E should, howev- er, be used sparingly. Jiwani recommends targeting sensi- tive areas around the cyes where a lot of skin damage like wrinkles can occur. The Body Shop has a number of Vitamin E prod- ucts for the skin. The fine has recently been expanded to include an eye cream ($15 for 15mL), hand and nail treat- ment ($9.95 for 75 mL) and face mist ($12 for 100 ml). The eye cream has no added fragrance or colour making it ideal for sensitive skin around the eyes, It also contains a pigment to reduce the appearance of fine fines. The vitamin E hand and nail treatment contains shea butter to soften cuticles and rose hips oil to reduce mois- ture loss, The face mist allows you to apply vitamin E to the skin without overdoing it with a cream you have to smear on. The mist acts as an emollient thar smoothes and softens. Applying vitamin E to the skin directly is all well and good, however, don’t neglect the importance of including the nutrient in vour diet. Foods like sunflower seeds, almonds and olive oil are execllent sources of Vitamin E — Danica Riley TONI Cavelti, the noted Vancouver jew- eller who sold his busi- ness to Birks’ earlier this month, recalled his earliest encounter with the national retailer. Birks’ was his tirst stop in Vancouver upon: arriving trom Switzerland in 1954. “Leame off the train and walked up Granville Street and went in to ask for work,” remembered Cavelti, a resident of West Vancouver since his arrival. “They said they didn’t have a workshop here and they couldn't use someone of my tesining.” “What a shame,” said Birks’ vice-president of retail sales and store operations Deena McNeill of her coni- pany’s missed opportunity. Instead, Cas elti joined Kar! Stittgen at European Watchmakers and Jewellers in Ambleside, and, two years later, left to open what was to become a highly successful design firm. MeNeill is no doubt pleased to be selling Cavelri’s designs in Birks” flagship store on Hastings Street. The jeweller’s designs will be available for sale through the Park Royal Birks store start- ing in the late spring.
