New associate composers are admitted to the Centre by jury procedure every two years, The jury is comprised of associate compasers chosen from across Canada. After evaluating an application, based on criteria set by the board of directors, the recom- mendations of the jury are forwarded .to the board of directors for approval. McKenzie's composition, Psychedelic Relics, was pre- miered June 21 by the Hard Rubber Orchestra at the Performance Works Theatre on Granville Island. The performance wes part of Vancouver's 1997 du Maurier International Jazz . Festival. The work was commis- sioned by the Hard Rubber New Music. Society in co- operation with the B.C. Cultural Fund.
