CONSTRUCTION
CON TRACT

SURE SPAN Construction Ltd.
of West Vancouver has been
awarded a $289,125 contract to
construct floats and the boat har-
bor in Port Edward.

Sure Span Construction submit-
ted the lowest of six qualifed
bidgs in response to a_ public
tender call.

The work will be carried out for
Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

The four 200-square-metre
floats will replace existing net-
repair floats which have
deteriorated.

The project is expected to create
10 jobs and be finished by the end
of March.

A CAPILANO § College labor
studies teacher has been appointed
the new vice-chairman to the
Workers’ Compensation Review
Board.

Janice M. Hight also works as a
lawyer and workers’ adviser with
the B.C. Labor and Consumer
Services Ministry.

She is a law school graduate of
the University of Manitoba and
has done graduate work at the
University of Auckland in New
Zealand.

The Workers’ Compensation
Review Board is an independent
administrative tribunal separate
from the Workers’ Compensation
Board.

The review board considers ap-
peals from decisions made by
WCB officers and claims by
workers, dependants or employees

under the Workers’ Compensation.

GVRD program studies owls

PEOPLE who give a hoot about
owls may want to pre-register for
an interpretive program called
Night Owl Hoot, which is being
offered by the Greater Vancouver
Regional District (GVRD) on
Thursday, March 25.

Spring is ow] mating season and
there is plenty of owl activity to
discover during the program, say
organizers.

_A GVRD_ naturalist will
troduce participants to

fascinating world of owls. People
will have have an opportunity to
find out where the birds live and
uncover the mysteries of their
nesting habits.

The program runs from 7 to 9
p.m. at Capilano Regional Park
and costs $3 per person. All ages
are welcome.
