Handsworth track needs upgrade HANDSWORTH SEC- ONDARY School Associa- tion (HSSA) will be holding a Jog-a-thon to raise money for the upgrading of the community track at Handsworth Secondary School. Montroyal Elementary School students will be taking part in the Jog-a-thon May 12 and Hand- sworth students will run on June 4 and 5. To sponsor a student, call 980-9464. The Handsworth track was built in 1971 and is now worn, uneven and in need of resurfacing. HSSA has started its fundrais- ing drive and the target is $45,000. A silent auction in March saised $5,000 as many North Shore mer- chants generously supported the cause. The education ministry recently allotted $280,000 for the upgrade, providing there are matching funds from other sources. HSSA representative Kitty Castle said her group hopes that North Van- couver District will approve fund- ing of $95,000 for the project with the adoption of the district’s budget on May 11. The GO B.C, grant that would have completed the funding was cancelled in March and will be replaced by a more modest Com- munity Grants Program.
