N. Van credit union robbed THE NORTH Vancouver Marine Drive branch of the North Shore Credit Union was robbed April 6. The suspect, a man believed to be approximately 35 years old, was last seen Jeaving the credit union eastbound, on foot. He pro- duced no weapon during the robbery. The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, 5°11’’, 165 to 170 pounds, with dark, greying hair, blue eyes, and heavy stub- ble growth on his face. . He was wearing a jean jacket, navy pants and a blue baseball cap. Blaze extinguished | in WV home WEST VANCOUVER Fire Department firefighters were called last Thursday evening to a house at 5952 Marine Dr. after fire broke out in une of the bome’s rooms. According to a fire department spokesman, workers contracted to demolish the house had been burning construction waste in a fireplace when an ember jumped from the fire and ignited a bench. The fire was quickly extinguished. Burning construction materials is illegal in West Vancouver. Service set for climber pioneer ‘A MEMORIAL service has been slated for today to honor Phyllis B. Munday, former North Vancouver resident, local mountaineer- ing pioneer and member of the North Vancouver St. John Am- bulance Brigade. Mrs. Munday, 95, died recently in Nanaimo Regional Hospital. Along with ber husband Don, Mrs. Munday pioneered the ex- ploration of B.C. Coast Mountains as a climber. Mount Munday bears the couple’s name. Munday is survived by her daughter Edith and two granddaugh- ters. The service is set for 2 p.m. today at St. John’s Anglican Church, 220 West 8th St., North Vancouver. Man jailed for theft A 32-YEAR-OLD Vancouver man was sentenced April 20 in North Vancouver provincial court to four moaths in jail for theft under $1,000. Conrad Gien Abigosis pleaded guilty to stealing merchandise from Woolco in North Vancouver on Jan. 15. Appearing before Judge J.L. McCarthy, Abigosis was also plac- ed on probation for 18 months. NV man fined for theft A 24-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was fined $1,500 after appearing in North Vancouver previncial court April 20 on various charges involving stolen credit cards and theft. Cameron Drew Smith pleaded guilty to three charges laid against him in connection with incidents that occurred between Aug. 19 and Oct, 2, 1989 in which Smith used two stolen Texaco Canada credit cards and stole $4,980 from Don Hunter Holdings. Appearing before Judge J.L. McCarthy, Smith was placed on probation for two years and ordered to pay $1,673.41 to G.E. Hunter and Associates Ltd, and return the $4,980 to Hunter.
