ANIMAL, VEGEFABLE or min-
eral?

A parade of the weird and
wonderful in human form was be-
ing prepared buckstage of the
Westin Bayshore Tuesday night.
For four and a half hours half-
painted torsos, faces, and flesh
melded with paint to create
animals, flora and fauna for the
Fourth Annual Makeup Make
Believe Contest.

True to iis moniker, the Golden
Oscar (above) was judged to be the
leading star in a cast ef 10 com-
petitors, Creator of the Oscar Gail
Taylor painted her model's body
entirely in gold and then wrapped
it with designs of framed moving
pictures.

Taking second place was Angie
Bemben with Flowers, a) woman
trussed up te look dike a> marble
vase fram the waist down with ber
upper half emerging from the vase
usa flower arrangement. Georgette
Weeks’ Pegasus deft} won third
place for the pink horse complete
with ao mane, tail and wines. the
horse also won best presentation.

‘The horse really did a wath Jike
a horse. te was really well dane.’
said Maria Pilon MeGuire. master
dadge for the aight. The most in-
tricate design went to Barb Moore
for her Fantasy, a model whose
front was painted to look like she
was giving flowers to Pegasus and
whose back looked like a pyramid
with a sphiny in front.

According to McGuire the com-
petition is getting better and
tougher each year as the makeup
artists see what their counterparts
are up to,
