AND THAT'S about as deep
as this study of a womaniz-
ing drunk gets.

Zack Hutton John Ritter) is try-
ing to lubricate his writer’s block
with as many dry martinis and
pretty young things as he can get
his hands on. His long-suffering
wife, Alex (Alyson Reed), decides
to leave Zack in a scissors-hold
with his pistol-packing mistress
(Denise Crosby). (It seems that he
was cheating on his mistress, too.)

Crying in his beer, Zack seeks
sympathy and shots of B-12 from
his bartender (Vincent Gardenia),
bail money from his lawyer (joel
Brooks), and revelations from his
psychiatrist (Michael Kidd).

The strange thing is, women are
attracted to him. Maybe it’s his
endless cash flow. The writer, whe
hasn’t published in years, goes
through two houses, a few cars
and a hundred G’s per year in al-
imony. But even that’s not
enough. Eventually, they all beat a
hasty retreat after reatizing his fi-
delity is on par with his sobriety.

in That's Life but here he’s added

a twist of alcoholism. The trouble
is that drunkenness is a question-
able source of humor these days
and Ritter’s character soon
becomes tiresome.

Another problem is the
repetitive nature of the gags. Being
hit with a sudden flood of water,
or smashing into vehicles after be-
ing distracted might be funny once
... but twice, ... three times?

The ad campaign hints at a
scene that is so outrageous that it
can't be shown on TV. And
they’re right. It’s hilarious — but
it’s the only bit worth seeing.

preferring to cant scathingly adout
the lamentable state of the British
system, With his roommate — the
“8& 1" (Paul McGann) — they
decide to get away from the
depressing city and escape toa
country cottage for the weekend.

make a shambles of their stay and
